Famous Dominiques

Hen which laid record # of eggs There are many Dominiques which deserve to be in the spot-light on this page, however "Old # 525" has been chosen due to her having laid the most eggs in an official Egg Trial. The trial was carried out at the Mountain Grove, Missouri experiment station. The summer of 1925 was very hot and many hens perished during the trials, though the official report of the Experiment Station makes special note of the Dominique's ability to withstand these adverse conditions.

Clarence W. "Walt" Withey (listed as "& Son" on the flyer), generously donated the printer's woodcut of this picture to the Dominique Club of America's archives. In a 1987 interview with David Hyman he related that his father was the owner of Paramount Farms, though he never owned Dominiques. Instead the Dominique flock was maintained by Walt.

Walt further stated "The largest flock of Dominiques I ever kept may have been 30-35. Kept two lines for pullet and cockerel breeding. I had Dominiques maybe 6 years."
