This very attractive partridge is also sexually dimorphic. Males are basically blue/black with a small white patch on the forehead just in front of a large, brushlike red crest. Females lack the crest and the body plumage is mostly green.

These birds are monogamous. 5-6 eggs is a normal clutch (6-8 in captivity). Incubation is 18-19 days. Both parents care for the chicks, even passing food to them, a most un-galliform trait.

They are found from Thailand to Sumatra and Borneo.
