Kraienkoppe

or Twentse Hoen

Historically known as the Pheasant Malay

This breed was developed into its present form in Holland and Germany in the mid-nineteenth century. Among the breeds used in this development are Old English and Belgian Games, and Leghorns. However, its history goes farther back, to Indonesia, to a bird known as the Pheasant Malay, which is a very different bird than the breed known as the Malay. The Pheasant Malay was a gamefowl, while the present-day Kraienkoppe is a showbird.

The birds have an upright stance, long back, strong head and are very fully feathered in the hackle and saddle. The walnut comb and wattles are quite small.

The breed is found in Silver and Blackbreasted Red.
