Originating in northern France, this is considered an excellent table bird. It was one of the winners in a taste test in France in 2002.

Males can reach up to 5 kg (12 lb) in weight. The hens are good winter layers and excellent mothers.

The Black variety is the best known, but Silver and Gold also can be found.
