The Ayam Pelung is a long crower from Indonesia. A full grown male may weigh 5-6 kg (12-15 lb) and stand up to 50 cm (18 in).
Legend has it that there was a farmer who was also a religious teacher named Mamah Acih who found a young male chick in his garden and took care of it and raised it. It grew up quickly and uttered a long and melodious crow. Mamah Acih called it Ayam Pelung.
Today there are annual crowing contests in Cianjur, and people bring Ayam Pelung roosters from all over Java Province and the Capital Territory of Jakarta to take part. The winning rooster may sell for millions of rupiahs (no, I don't know what they're worth).
