Spectacled Eider

a.k.a. Fischer's Eider

These Eiders are found along the coast of Alaska, and along easternmost Russia into the Bering Sea. With its black body, white back, yellow/green head and white eye patches, the male is unmistakeable. Females are brown with paler eye patches.

Although mainly a diver, it will dabble in shallow waters occasionally. In flight it is faster and more agile than most Eiders, but on land it is very ungainly.
