aka Bernier's Teal
A Madagascar Teal

Long isolated on Madagascar, this species apparently has always been rare and now pressures on the populations are rising.
Habitat is saline lakes with emergent vegetation and the birds feed by dabbling while wading in shallow water.
Breeding season begins in mid-September and two clutches may be raised.
