Dusky Moorhen

Gallinula tenebrosa

A Dusky Moorhen

Dusky Moorhens range from India through Indonesia down into Australia. Due to overlapping distributions and similar appearance, they are often confused with Purple Swamphens and Eurasian Coots.

They forage both on land and in the water and are quite omnivorous in their diet.

5-11 eggs are laid in a bulky grass nest at the water's edge.
