Porphyrio melanotus

A Purple Swamphen

This species used to be considered a subspecies of Porphyrio porphyrio. It is found in Australia, New Zealand (where it is called the Pukeko), and Oceania.

They live in small groups near bodies of freshwater.

Like many of their relatives, they are quite omnivorous.
