Satyr Tragopans are native to the Kumaon area of India east thru Nepal, Sikkim and Burma. They live in thickly forested areas at high altitudes.

This is the most common Tragopan, both in the wild and in captivity.

They gain their adult plumage in the second year. The clutch size is 2-4 eggs and incubation lasts 28 days. These birds are mainly vegetarian, preferring fruits and berries.
