Wonga Pigeons
Leucosarcia melanoleuca
Wonga Pigeon
Their range in eastern Australia runs from near Cairns in Queensland down to eastern Victoria, preferring rain forest habitats.
If disturbed they produce explosive wing-claps when taking off.
The call is a loud, high-pitched coo repeated over and over and over. Ed. note: I was near one for half an hour and it never shut up. One of the most annoying bird calls I've ever encountered.
