The Åsbo is one of the oldest breeds in Sweden, tracing its lineage all the way back to the Vikings. Due to being developed on marginal land in a poor area, the birds are good on free-range and very cold tolerant. There is a very stong broody instinct in this breed.

Åsbos are found in black, grey, white, red and spotted. They are a rather small light breed, weighing 2.5 to 3.5 pounds (1 to 1.5 kilos).
